UC Santa Barbara Food Sustainability and Security Conference

All,  I received an invitation to attend this conference in Santa Barabara, February 5 through 7.  Its free and open to the public, so I wanted to share the invitation should others desire to attend.

 About the conference

In response to international conflicts over hunger, food prices, and genetically modified seeds, food has become central to both environmental and economic policymaking. In this context, the interdisciplinary field of food studies have new purchase. This conference will gather some of the country’s leading food scholars—many affiliated with the UC system—to examine the meaning of food sustainability in particular regional contexts from Africa to the Middle East to the Americas. The conference will provide a timely occasion for scholars from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences as well as activists and farmers to dialogue about the global food system.
